London Stadium’s capacity is set to increase to 62,500 seats.
Not sure I understand how the west stand will be configured to be both closer to the pitch and reduce the gap between the upper and lower stands. Anyone can explain this?

"The Club can confirm that:

London Stadium’s capacity is set to increase to 62,500 seats.*
The West Stand Lower Tier will be reconfigured to further develop a more traditional football stadium layout, bringing the upper and lower tiers closer together and more fans nearer to the action.
Affordable family football remains at the heart of everything we do, and the Club has ensured that our hugely popular £99 junior Season Ticket will continue in 2022/23.
A new entry level adult Season Ticket is being introduced for £299 – the cheapest adult Season Ticket in London in the Premier League.
The introduction of a new Under 18s Season Ticket band will replace the existing Under 16s ticket, meaning that young supporters can benefit from lower-priced Season Tickets for longer, as part of our commitment to affordable top-flight football for young people and families.
We are introducing a new ‘1966 West’ band, replicating the hugely popular 1966 seats in the Billy Bonds Stand.
After two seasons of price freezes across the board, there will be a small uplift on some of our Season Ticket prices for 2022/23, with a cost per game increase from just 79p in the lowest General Admissions band to just over £5 in the highest General Admissions band.
Our ongoing commitment to deliver enhancements and improvements in Club London will see an improved matchday experience for our loyal and valued members, with a small price increase where applicable.
The Season Ticket renewal window will open on Friday 8 April for for all supporters - General Admission Season Ticket Holders and Club London Members
Supporters in the reconfigured West Stand Lower Tier, along with Club London Members, have been contacted and will be given priority when renewals open on Friday, at which time they will receive tailored communications detailing what these exciting changes mean for them.
Supporters on the Season Ticket Priority List who are in line to receive a Season Ticket for 2022/23 will have the option to pay a £50 deposit to secure their seat for next year from Monday 11 April, replicating the hugely successful process undertaken ahead of the 2021/22 campaign. "

Kiwi - yeah as Huffers said, there are more than 62,500 seats.

The capacity I think is about 66,000 currently but we don't have planning permission to use all of the seats.

It was 57,000 and we got this increased to 60,000 and the next phase will see us obtain permission to expand to 62,500.

It's not necessarily a case of making space for seats, it's obtaining permission to use the seats based on the services and safety certificates etc.

I don't actually know if the work in the West Stand is contributing to the increased capacity or if they are just opening up some of the seats that are covered with tarpaulin.

There cannot be any surprises in any of this. The owners are cunts - they just won't hear being told as much from 1st game of new season.

My exciting changes involve moving from the edge of the box to behind the corner flag (around 20m laterally) and two rows back. I am fucking elated.

Kiwi, there has to be ‘x’ amount of toilet and other facilities accessible per seat.

Is the owner the current stand? If so loads of those seats are now further away somehow?

Re: London Stadium’s capacity is set to increase to 62,500 seats.
One thing about capacity that has annoyed since first games in the stadium were played - and thats the amount of unused concrete blocks awaiting seats along with about two/three rows covered off all at the top of the rim up in the gods. Years on I’d doubt that much if anything has altered on these seats/options. If you tally those lost options up around the entire circumference of the stadium - thats a few thousand seats right there without needing to do much if anything and zero rehashing down the front. Stadium could easily approach 70k if all the wasted areas were leveraged.

Looking a the illustration on KUMB..

It doesn't look like the stand is moving closer to the pitch, if anything the front row are predominantly further from the pitch.

It doesn't look like they are bringing the stands closer together.

All it looks like they are doing is creating additional seats in gap between the upper and lower tier which are presumably the 1500 quid 1966 seats.

So I get an email saying they are improving the ground by moving the stand closer to the pitch but when you open it the stand is actually moving further away as is my seat
You couldn’t make this shit up

They’re probably uncovering a few of the ones at the very back above the screens. I imagine they’re the Band 6 seats.

Re: London Stadium’s capacity is set to increase to 62,500 seats.
Syd.

Yeah I get that, there are more seats than tickets sold and capacity is restricted by regulation and approval.

But I can’t see how they can close a whole block and find an extra 2,500 seats? Although I’m sure I read there are 66,000 seats available.

Either way, it’s still a shitty email and closing a whole block for the actions of a few is pathetic.

I am being moved from level with six yard box to a block at an angle behind the corner flag .... level with some stewards behind the goal - and the e-mail is headed ‘bringing you closer to the action’! Oh well ... better view of the action when stewards let people run on !

Capacity is limited by regulations not the number of seats. As in the European games because there were no away fans in the lower tper they opened up more seats at the back of the Bobby Moore Upper.

Huffers, can you share that image somehow?

Re: London Stadium’s capacity is set to increase to 62,500 seats.
I have just seen a screenshot in a WhatsApp group. Well, I’m lost for words.

They will also be putting physical barriers in place similar to Wembley to separate corporate from standard up the middle of the west stand and reconfiguring the dugouts so there is a void space between them and the fans.

Re: London Stadium’s capacity is set to increase to 62,500 seats.
I don’t sit in the west stand so don’t have the facility to view the seat viewer. I just can’t imagine even they would build a new stand and have it further from the pitch.

Re: London Stadium’s capacity is set to increase to 62,500 seats.
So, to summarise:-

The club announce they are reconfiguring the west stand stating that had contacted all season ticket holders in that stand to provide them with necessary information - they hadn't

They claimed that they were going to move fans closers to the pitch when the stand is going to be further away.

They said that they would offer like for like seats - all I've seen from people is they will be further away or have to a massive amount more for the privilege of keeping the same seats

They are making the distance between the away fans in the lower tier bigger

They are closing the the block next to the away fans in the upper tier and making the the distance between away fans bigger.

There are plenty of closed off seats they could have opened up to increase the capacity without the need to reconfigure the stand. However, this way they are able to kill two birds with one stone and charge much more whilst breaking up the 'rif raf' next to the away fans.

To top it off they send the email which actually confirms the situation gone 5pm on a Friday.

Fuck me, the season the place finally starts to feel like home they are going to fuck it all up.

Absolute wankers.

Re: London Stadium’s capacity is set to increase to 62,500 seats.
Just got an email saying they are closing the whole of block 217 (right of away fans if looking up from pitch) for persistent standing.

How are they going to teach 62,500 with a whole block closed off?

Re: London Stadium’s capacity is set to increase to 62,500 seats.
If you look at the seat viewer plan which shows the overlap of the two configurations you will see what I mean.

On the current seating plan, the gap between the East & West to the pitch is similar. On the new plan, the West is closer.
